Dear Hog Member,
When someone accepts appointment or election to a leadership position in the HOG chapter, or any organization, it carries with it certain responsibilities. Some are obvious, such as carrying out the duties of the position, promoting HOG and its events, having fun riding, etc. Some are not so obvious.
A Chapter officer represents the chapter, and by extension the dealership, to the public; especially the riding public. A public activity that is borderline socially acceptable for a private citizen crosses the line to unacceptable when that person takes on the responsibility of representing Greater St. Louis-Festus HOG and Surdyke Harley-Davidson, whether in chapter attire or not.
To make a long story short, the line was crossed.
It is unfortunate that several other officers have decided to resign because of this incident, but it tells me that it was time to take the leadership of the Chapter in a new direction. Their energy and enthusiasm will be missed, but some of that enthusiasm runs counter to the direction this chapter and this business can allow.
The Festus HOG chapter will continue to operate under the sponsorship of Surdyke Harley-Davidson.
The HOG Hayride is still on for Oct. 25th, as well most other events. It has come to light in the last 24 hours that the reservation at the Holiday Inn for the New Year’s Eve Ball has been changed from the HOG Chapter to Robert Russell. Tickets to this event have been sold. The future of this event for this year is in question.
The 2009 calendar is set and additions will be made to include more scenic rides and events co-sponsored by the chapter and Surdyke Harley-Davidson with more input from the HOG chapter general membership.
New officers will be announced at the November 7th HOG meeting. If you are interested in maintaining your position or would like to be considered for a primary officer position, please contact Tim Surdyke at Surdyke Harley-Davidson prior to November 1st.
Look for positive changes and lots more riding in 2009!
